I'm Sorry, Could You Repeat Your Order? No, She Can't.

The court system is already slow enough. So, it pains me to have to report that another wonderful person has filed a lawsuit against McDonald's. You've gotta hear this.

A hearing-impaired woman in Nebraska is filing a lawsuit against McDonald's because one of the McDonald's she frequents would not allow her to order at the window, but only thru the speaker or by coming inside the restaurant. So, because she is hearing-impaired and feels inconvenienced, she is going to push the Americans with Disabilities Act into the face of Ronald McDonald and demand they allow drive-thru window ordering for all disabled people...oh, and she wants money. Can't forget that. The woman wears a hearing aid, but still cannot hear at drive-thru speakers. She also has no difficulty walking into the restaurant, but according to her attorney, "that's not the point."

What is the point? Here it is. This woman is most likely going to get millions for this. The ADA defines disability as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity." Yes, being deaf is a disability but a drive-thru lawsuit? Jesus, when is this shit gonna stop?

First, let me say that nobody understands the shit that comes thru the speakers in drive-thru windows. Those speakers were designed by someone who likes to look at people giving their order 3 times before paying. It isn't because they're too hard to hear thru, it's because the person taking the order is eating the microphone while speaking. I've always found the speakers distort the sound because they're too loud and the person sounds like a combination of MushMouth from Fat Albert and the teacher from the Peanuts cartoons. Those speakers suck. We all suffer thru the distortion so being deaf may actually be a blessing at drive-thrus.

Second, you wear a hearing aid but still can't hear a damn thing? Why don't you just stick a blue flashing light on it and try to fit in with everyone else? Maybe the hearing aid is like "deaf bling." I bet I paid for it, too.

Third, you are aware that you cannot hear, but feel the need to go thru the drive-thru. Apparently, she has gone to other fast food places and this is not an issue. Hey, lady, here's an idea. Go there instead. Tell McD's you're pissed and take your business elsewhere instead of pitching a bitch and filing a lawsuit. Or, I've got another plan. Go inside. Her kids are autistic and going inside would be problematic, so her lawyer says. So, I guess that means that every parent with autistic children is disabled. Let's get a copy of the ADA for all parents so they can now file suit as well...we'll break these greedy corporate fatcats and finally be able to enjoy our major life activities. As we all know, winning a million dollar lawsuit cures disabilities, that's why they ask for it.

Oh Godfather, you're just mean and don't care about disabled people. Really? I have 2 customers of mine who are deaf, and they visit every week. Yes, that's right. They pay full price to enjoy some cinematic entertainment without hearing a damn word. Not once have they ever said that all films should have open captioning, not once have they filed a lawsuit. They come, they watch, they leave, they're happy.

I imagine after this woman wins this BS lawsuit that she will go after them again, stating that all drive-thru employees should be able to use sign language because, you know, McDonald's drive-thru is a major life activity. The only thing more frivolous than this lawsuit is the hearing aid she wears that doesn't help. I hope this case gets thrown out and the judge hits her with a contempt charge for using a battery-operated device in his courtroom. Then again, it isn't like the hearing aid works. She'll keep saying "What?" and the judge will hold her in contempt for mocking the court. Yep, I'm going to hell.
