We Will Never Forget...

Yes, Ted Kennedy is dead.  Yes, the Lion of Liberalism is dead.  Now, we get to hear about TeddyCare instead of ObamaCare.  "Pass the public option of health care, because Teddy would have wanted it."  I promise you, you will hear these words soon.  Doesn't the Kennedy Reform Act of 2009 have a super ring to it?

In rememberance of his passing, perhaps we should not lower every flag in the US to half-mast.  While we have CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews, and CNBC to stroke the Kennedy ego, maybe we should remember the bad times, like when....

1.  He was expelled from Harvard for cheating, (rumors still around whether he was expelled once or twice, but once for sure).
2.  He received preferential treatment and got his enlistment in the Army shortened from 4 years to 2 years.  This was thanks to his father, Bootleg Joe, was also got a guarantee that Teddy would not be sent to Korea where there was a little Conflict going on.  I coulda sworn the Democrats got all huffy about that when it involved George Bush, but didn't utter a word of disapproval when Teddy got a sweet deal and Clinton dodged it completely.
3.  He was discharged from the Army, and was allowed to return to Harvard where he finally graduated, then went to law school in Virginia.  While in law school, he was cited for reckless driving four times and was still allowed to take and pass the state bar exam.
Then, "back in the Summer of '69," there was Mary Jo Kopechne and the Chappaquiddick Flip.  Teddy drove Mary Jo, a campaign worker, home in his Oldsmobile limo, but instead of taking her home, he took a left onto an unlit bridge and into Poucha Pond.  He swam to shore and went back to the party, bypassing a fire station and many houses.  Then he brought 2 friends to the scene of the accident.  They told him to call the police, as he knew he should have.  Instead, he called his lawyer and went to sleep, then called the police in the morning after they had already discovered the accident.  The way her funeral, autopsy, and burial went down has often been the subject of investigation.  Evidence from the car shows that there were scratch marks on the floor upholstery where Mary Jo struggled in the upside-down car.  Teddy received a 2-month suspended sentence for leaving the scene of an accident.

Teddy Kennedy, in his time with the Senate, has been the face of liberalism, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing, one of the greatest issues facing our country currently is the influx of illegal immigrants.  Teddy has been the cattle driver on every major piece of legislation opening the door to illegals, including the recently shelved amnesty program.  He has also been one of the bigger faces of the current health care reform plan, a plan which is currently sinking President Jesus to un-godlike approval numbers.

Absolutely, honor him for his service to Massachusetts and US politics.  Honor him for his years as a statesman.  But do not act like he was your best friend, do not act like he is the Savior of Health Care riding in his golden chariot, arms outstretched to shake the hands of the common man.  We already have that guy as our president.  The greatest footprint he left was that he was the muse for Mayor Quimby on The Simpsons.  Oh, and he also kept Scotch makers in business.

Ted Kennedy...statesman, lion, problem drinker.  One thing I will say....the Jack/Bobby/Teddy reunion in heaven is going to be one hell of a party, at least until Nixon and Reagan crash it.
